Published on November 12, 2019, Manchester City's title defence has been put to the test this season, but former captain Vincent Kompany remains optimistic about their chances.
Despite losing central defender Aymeric Laporte to a long-term injury and not replacing Kompany when he left for Anderlecht in May, the team has managed to adapt with midfielder Fernandinho playing as a makeshift central defender alongside John Stones.
However, the pair struggled against Liverpool in their recent 3-1 defeat at Anfield, leading to speculation about the need for another defender in January.
But Kompany is not convinced, stating, "I don't think they need to sign another defender," in an interview with Sky Sports.
He added, "The best way for City to defend in the past has been to attack. They have no reason to change that."
Kompany believes that once Manchester City reconnects with their best performances, they can achieve a sustainable amount of wins and win a third consecutive title under Pep Guardiola.
Despite Liverpool's nine-point gap on fourth-placed City, Kompany remains confident in his former side's ability to turn things around.
