On the eve of their National Super League match against Coast Stima, Bidco United head coach Anthony Akhulia has warned his team against complacency, which he believes could jeopardize their promotion ambitions.
With 28 points after 13 rounds, Bidco United is currently third in the NSL log and is determined to make up for last season's 15-point shortfall in their promotion bid.
Coach Akhulia attributed their recent 2-1 win over Ushuru FC to a timely boost after last weekend's slump against Vihiga United.
"We played very well and managed to beat Ushuru FC, which is among the best teams in the league. It was a good result for us, given that we had lost the previous game to Vihiga United," Akhulia said.
He emphasized that the victory kept them in the leading pack, a positive development for the team.
"It means we are in the league to compete and not just participate," he added.
However, their promotion bid faces a significant challenge from runaway leaders City Stars, who have opened a six-point lead at the top of the table following their 1-0 victory over FC Talanta.
Coach Akhulia expressed confidence that his team will use the 'one game at a time' approach to catch up with City Stars.
"We aim to keep them on their toes and maintain our position in the leading pack. Three points will be taken away from City Stars since they played Northern Wanderers, who are no longer in the league," he said.
He believes that his team will move closer to City Stars as the season progresses.
"Our approach is to go one game after another. The most important thing is to win all our games," Akhulia asserted.
He expects an intense showdown against Coast Stima tomorrow, given their previous encounter which saw both teams score seven goals.
"Coast Stima is a very good side. Last time we played them, we won 4-3 in a very entertaining game. I expect that to be the case tomorrow," he concluded.
