On Tuesday, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) received a significant boost with the signing of a three-year sponsorship package with a local gaming firm worth Sh90 million.
Under the agreement, the gaming firm will provide Sh750,000 annually to each of the 20 competing teams in the second-tier League, as well as in-kind provision of balls, nets, and other sports equipment.
FKF President Nick Mwendwa praised the gaming firm for its timely support, stating, "We as FKF are proud to launch another partnership with our NSL clubs, and it's our belief that it will really help in easing the clubs' financial hardships as well as increasing competition in the league."
According to Mwendwa, the disbursement of funds will begin immediately, with Sh15 million allocated to clubs each season and the remaining Sh15 million covering the federation's costs.
John Mbatia, the gaming firm's head of commercial, emphasized the partnership's commitment to giving back to the community through sports, art, and culture, with football being their primary focus.
"Through our partnership with FKF, we hope to improve the standards of football and nurture talent from grassroots to national level," Mbatia said. "We will be happy to see many players feature in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers through this partnership."
The gaming firm's deal comes at a crucial time for FKF, which suffered a significant blow with the withdrawal of its former broadcast partner.
