On November 12, 2019, a video clip began circulating on social media showing a Kenyatta University bus unable to climb the ramp of the ferry channel.
According to a statement from Kenya Ferry Services, the bus failed to gain uphill momentum, but the company refuted claims that there were passengers on board at the time of the incident.
Kenya Ferry Services stated that all passengers had alighted before boarding the ferry in compliance with their safety procedure, and that their staff stepped in to help pull the bus to a safer location.
The incident occurred just a month after a tragic accident in which Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda drowned after their car plunged into the ocean.
Following the car tragedy, President Uhuru Kenyatta dissolved the KFS board on October 16, 2019.
