On November 12, 2019, World Athletics announced the final shortlist of five athletes for the Female World Athlete of the Year 2019 Award, with Kenyan marathon runner Brigid Kosgei among the nominees.
Brigid Kosgei, who broke the women's world marathon record at the Chicago Marathon in October 2019, will compete against Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Dutch distance running star Sifan Hassan, American hurdler Dalilah Muhammad, and Venezuelan triple jumper Julimar Rojas for the top award.
According to World Athletics, the five shortlisted athletes have demonstrated excellence across various athletics disciplines in 2019.
The winners of the World Athlete of the Year Awards will be announced live on stage at the World Athletics Awards 2019 in Monaco on November 23, 2019.
