On November 11, 2019, a viral video surfaced showing police officers brutally assaulting a student from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Kenya.

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai directed the Internal Affairs Unit to investigate the incident and make recommendations within 24 hours.

"The national police service wishes to inform the public that the four officers who were caught on camera using excessive force on a JKUAT student have been identified and consequently interdicted from services as per police procedures," said IG Mutyambai.

Further action and internal disciplinary processes will follow the recommendation of the Internal Affairs Unit investigation.

Police action should never be punitive, but rather focus on maintaining law and order and processing offenders to court, Mutyambai emphasized.
