On November 12, 2019, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) made a crucial decision to suspend the operating licences of Silverstone's Dash 8 fleet for a week.
The suspension was a direct result of a freak accident involving the airline a few days prior, which led to the KCAA taking swift action to ensure the safety of passengers.
According to KCAA Director Gilbert Kibe, the airline cannot operate until a thorough report is compiled on the incident that led to the fall of the wheel.
Silverstone confirmed the suspension in a statement, assuring its customers that normal service will not be disrupted.
However, the airline temporarily suspended all scheduled services effective November 12, 2019, and is working with customers to minimize any disruption to their travel.
The Dash 8 is a series of turboprop-powered airlines developed by de Havilland Canada, capable of carrying between 40-100 passengers.
