JKUAT student Allan Omondi was at the center of a brutal police assault on November 11, 2019, during a protest over insecurity at the institution.

According to reports, Allan, a 4th-year Food Science and Technology student, was cornered by police officers and kicked in the head and hit with batons on other parts of his body.

He was later arrested and taken into custody at Juja Police Station, where his mother camped out pleading for his release.

As late as 9:30pm, Allan was still locked up, but it was not until 10:30pm that it was confirmed that he was out of police custody.

On Tuesday morning, calls to Allan remained unanswered.

Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has since condemned the incident and ordered that action be taken on the culprits within 24 hours.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into the incident, and human rights organizations have condemned the use of violent policing during public demonstrations.
