The Nairobi-Mombasa Highway will be closed at Mlolongo area for the next nine days to facilitate the installation of a footbridge.
According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the road will be closed from November 12-20 to enable the installation of the deck of the footbridge in Mlolongo town.
Motorists traveling to Nairobi and Mombasa have been advised to use the provided diversions as directed by the signs and Traffic Marshals.
The installation of footbridges along major roads is aimed at easing pedestrian movement and reducing highway accidents.
Notably, Mlolongo town marks the start point of the multi-billion Nairobi Expressway project, which will extend to the James Gichuru junction in Westlands.
From Mlolongo to Capital Center, the road will be at the same level as the existing A8, while from Capital Center to James Gichuru, the road will be elevated above the existing A8 road.
President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the Nairobi Expressway project on October 16, and the project is expected to take 3 years to complete.
