Governor Obado Seeks Disqualification of Sharon Otieno's Family Lawyer ¶
On November 12, 2019, Migori Governor Okoth Obado filed a petition seeking to have George Wajackoyah, the lawyer representing Sharon Otieno's family, disqualified from the murder case.
According to the petition, Wajackoyah was initially one of Obado's lawyers at the initial stages of the murder case and was in possession of confidential information shared between them.
Obado argued that Wajackoyah's representation of the victim's family was a conflict of interest and could deny him a fair trial.
He also raised concerns that Wajackoyah might share the confidential information with the prosecution team, leading to a miscarriage of justice.
The case will be heard on Wednesday, November 27, by Justice Ngenye Macharia.
Obado's petition comes after Wajackoyah approached him on September 23, 2018, at Gigiri Police Station, where he was being held, and sought to represent him.
However, Wajackoyah fell out with Obado on September 24, 2018, when he found several other lawyers ready to act on Obado's behalf.
Obado stated that he was surprised to see Wajackoyah appear for the victim's family in subsequent court hearings, a move he noted was likely to deny him a fair trial.
Obado also argued that Wajackoyah's continuous representation of the victim's family was aimed at advancing certain mischief against him.
