Kenyan politicians have been making headlines for their use of vulgar language, sparking concerns about the kind of leaders they are portraying. From mothers and fathers to lawmakers, some of these leaders have been caught using language that would make the devil cringe.

One such politician is Cate Waruguru, the Laikipia women representative, who recently told Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to go and give birth first for her newly wed husband, Kamotho Waiganjo. Speaking during the Inua Mama rally in Uasin Gishu county on November 10, 2019, Waruguru said the governor was still green in politics as she was a first-time governor.

“Let me remind Waiguru that just because she was fronted by the Jubilee party, it doesn’t mean she is the Wangu Makeri of the Mt. Kenya region,” an angry Cate said.

Waruguru was visibly angry, disgusted by the governor’s support for the Building Bridges Initiatives (BBI) and told her to first give birth before thinking of the initiative.

“Iko kamama kengine apa, mimi sijui. Ameolewa juzi atatumbo ya kwanza haijatupatia mtoto. Lakini sai anafikiria ile kitu kubwa atazaa ati nikutuzalia BBI. Mwambieni oooooooh,” Said Waruguru

Another politician who has been in the news for her use of vulgar language is Garissa Woman Rep Anab Subow. The female politician is the latest to go on a vulgar spree after calling opposition leader Raila Odinga uncircumcised.

“Shetani ashindwee…na huyu mzee anaitwa baba, sijui ni baba ya nani. Huyu mzee ni mkubwa hata hajatahirishwa. Yeye ni baba lakini aende Bondo akatahirishwe kwanza. Kwani yeye ni nani, mbona hazeeki,” Subow said.

Subow went on to say, “Anasema Kibra ni yake, but sisi tunajua Kibra ni ya wakenya…..sio bedroom yake. Tutampeleka Bondo aende azeeke akufie huko”.

Other politicians who have been caught using vulgar language include Gideon Mulyungi, the Mwingi Central MP, who claimed to have a bigger mkuki between his legs than President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta. Mulyungi also insulted President Uhuru when he uttered in Kamba language that, “We mwikuyu niwe wonaa tawikisithe kiasa kusinda mukamba…ngaumisya suluali vaa withia nina kisithe kiasa kukila Uhuru wa Kenyatta,”

Millie Odhiambo, the Suba North MP, has also been in the news for her use of vulgar language. She engaged in a bitter war of words with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko in August 2019 over the matrimonial life of the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth.

“HOW, SONKO BEHAVED MUST BE CONDEMNED IN THE STRONGEST TERMS POSSIBLE. THEN, AFTER ALL THAT, THEY STILL PUT AN INJUNCTION? DIDN’T THEY KNOW, THEY COULD HAVE JUST DONE, THAT QUIETLY WITHOUT TAKING, THE FOCUS AWAY FROM THE BEREAVED?” She wrote on Facebook.
