Published on November 12, 2019, a disturbing video has emerged showing police officers brutally assaulting a defenceless student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) in Kenya.
On Monday, officers from Juja descended on protesting students, who were demanding increased security around the main campus, with blows, kicks, and clubs.
Instead of providing protection and reassurance, the officers resorted to violence, leaving students injured and traumatized.
One of the most disturbing scenes captured on camera shows five male police officers taking turns to kick Allan Omondi, a fourth-year student, who was lying on the ground.
Omondi, who is asthmatic, was later arrested and locked up at Juja Police Station for over five hours without access to his inhaler or a sweater.
According to his friend, Ian Duncan, Omondi was released from the cell on Monday night and handed over to his mother.
The officers also broke the gate of one of the hostels and lobbed teargas, subjecting the students to inhuman treatment.
