President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Principal Secretary William Ruto have been at odds, according to Murang'a County senator Irungu Kang'ata.

Speaking on a TV talk show on Monday, Kang'ata revealed that the two leaders no longer inform each other about their functions, leading to the cancellation of a planned visit to Murang'a.

He explained that the plan to have Uhuru visit Murang'a on Sunday was hatched in May, when he and other leaders went to receive a school bus at State House.

"The bishop was among those who had accompanied me and we had a chat with the President and this is when we invited him for the service," Kang'ata said.

However, despite having agreed on the visit, they had not received official communication to confirm the President's visit.

"His coming was confirmed on Thursday but unfortunately this also changed the last minute," Kang'ata said.

He refuted claims that Uhuru was losing touch with the people from the region, saying that the government had done a lot for the locals, which would not have been possible if he did not have their interest at heart.
