Former Senator Boni Khalwale has sparked controversy after defending men who faced a mob in Kibra during a by-election.

On November 7, 2019, Khalwale was seen carrying stones and confronting the mob that had attacked him and his supporters.

Speaking on NTV's AM Live on November 12, 2019, Khalwale said that he was proud to have stood up to the mob and defended his culture.

"In our Luhya culture, a man who has been insulted or attacked should not run away from the attackers," Khalwale said.

However, his comments were met with criticism from other guests on the show, who argued that his actions were not justified and could have led to further violence.

"You cannot use one culture to justify violence against another culture," said Eseli Simiyu, a member of parliament from Tongaren.

Khalwale's actions sparked widespread debate on social media, with many people questioning his decision to confront the mob.
