Published on November 12, 2019, England manager Gareth Southgate has made the decision to drop Manchester City star Raheem Sterling from the team's Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro.

The move comes after a physical confrontation between Sterling and Liverpool defender Joe Gomez on Monday, following their teams' 3-1 match on Sunday.

Southgate stated that the team had taken the decision to not consider Sterling for the match against Montenegro, citing the need to separate club rivalries from the national team.

"One of the great challenges and strengths for us is that we've been able to separate club rivalries from the national team. Unfortunately the emotions of yesterday's game were still raw," Southgate said in a statement.

With a draw against Montenegro at Wembley, England will guarantee their place at Euro 2020.
