Published on November 12, 2019, two suspected Al-Shabaab militants, arrested in Likoni during a security raid in October, will remain in police custody until their case is concluded.

Mr Bakari Chimbonja and Mr Athuman Nyae are accused of planning a massive terror attack at the Coast.

Senior Resident Magistrate Rittah Amwayi denied them bond, citing concerns that they would flee and disrupt investigations.

She noted that suspected terrorists killed 11 General Service Unit (GSU) officers using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on Degoh Road in Garissa County in October.

Ms Amwayi also stated that the prosecution had established compelling reasons to deny the accused bond pending trial.

The two suspects denied three terror-related charges, including harbouring terrorists and being members of the militant group.

They are accused of harbouring Swaleh Yusuf, Abdalla, Salama Salim Mohamed, and Mkubwa Sadi Ramadhan, who are all dead, knowing they intended to commit an act of terrorism.

The case will be mentioned on December 17.
