On November 12, 2019, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale appeared on NTV's AM Live show, where he made remarks that have left many in the country questioning his judgment.

During the show, Khalwale claimed he was defending himself from 'uncircumcised Kibra boys' using rocks and boulders. His comments sparked a heated debate, with many criticizing his actions as reckless and culturally insensitive.

Dr. Eseli Simiyu, the Ford Kenya Secretary General and Tongaren MP, was among those who lashed out at Khalwale, terming his remarks 'reckless' and warning that such comments can lead to violence and hostility in Kenyan politics.

Simiyu also cautioned against using cultural practices to judge others, stating that this can create chaos in the political space.

The Kibra by-election, which took place on November 7, 2019, saw ODM candidate Imran Okoth emerge victorious, garnering over 24,000 votes, while Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga secured a paltry 11,000 votes.
