On November 10, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) foiled a robbery in Kitui County, arresting four armed robbers in the process.

According to the DCI, the suspects had attacked and robbed a man at Nguuni Trading Centre, making off with Sh70,000, three mobile phones, and Safaricom credit cards.

However, the DCI detectives were hot on their heels, pursuing and intercepting the vehicle the suspects were using in a high-speed chase.

During the chase, the detectives recovered a sub-machine gun with several rounds of ammunition at Wikilaylie Market in Kitui.

The suspects arrested include Musembi Musyoka, 42, and Kasola Nzulya, 46, both ex-convicts from Kamiti Max Prison, as well as Peter Mwendwa, a 43-year-old ex-convict from Malindi Prison, and Silvester Onyango, 35.

A manhunt for the two suspects who escaped is currently underway.
