On November 23, the World Athletics Awards will be held in Monaco, and Kenya's world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge has made the final shortlist of five athletes.
Published on November 12, 2019, Kipchoge, the Olympic champion, has been shortlisted for the second year in a row, having made the list in 2018 and won the prestigious award in 2018.
He has now stamped his status as the greatest marathon runner in history after becoming the first man to run the marathon in under two hours in Vienna, Austria.
Alongside Kipchoge, the other finalists include world 10,000 meters champion Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda, American pole vault world title holder Sam Kendricks, Noah Lyles of the USA, and Norwegian hurdler Karsten Warholm.
The winners will be determined through a two-way voting process: The World Athletics Council and the World Athletics Family cast their votes by email, while fans voted online via social media platforms.
The Council's vote counted for 50% of the result, while the Athletics Family's votes and the public votes each counted for 25% of the final result.
