On Monday, a chaotic scene unfolded at City Hall as Nairobi MCAs clashed over the county assembly leadership.

According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation began when a faction of MCAs allied to Speaker Beatrice Elachi attempted to remove Majority Leader Abdi Guyo from office.

Police were forced to intervene, firing shots in the air and lobbing teargas canisters to disperse the warring MCAs.

The altercation was sparked by a dispute over the leadership of the Jubilee Party in the assembly.

Earlier, a group allied to Speaker Elachi had presented minutes of a meeting allegedly held at Sai Rock Hotel in Mombasa, where Jubilee MCAs were said to have resolved to replace the party's leadership in the assembly.

During the alleged meeting, the MCAs decided to replace Mr. Guyo with Dandora III MCA Charles Thuo, while Nominated MCA June Ndegwa was chosen to replace Chege Waithera as the Majority Chief Whip.

However, Majority Leader Guyo claimed that he was attacked by goons who hurled teargas canisters at him before breaking into his office.
