On November 9, 2019, police in Rachuonyo North, Homa Bay County arrested 18 KCSE candidates from Kobala Mixed Secondary School who had sneaked out to attend a village dance.

The students, 16 boys and two girls, had made their way out of the school through the fence at night, avoiding the school gate to avoid being seen.

Area chief Peter Agunga confirmed the incident, stating that the students had placed a wooden ladder on the fence and jumped out.

According to Agunga, the school's management had confirmed that the candidates were sitting their exams, and the students had retired to a home in the village instead of heading back to school.

Residents alerted Agunga, who mobilised police officers and together they arrested the group.

The students were detained at the chief's office before their parents were called to pick them for school.

Agunga stated that the school head had confirmed that all the students were sitting for the national exam, KCSE.

It is worth noting that the incident occurred on November 9, 2019, and was confirmed by the area chief on November 11, 2019.
