On November 11, 2019, detectives in Mombasa made a significant intercept, seizing a car carrying crude weapons, including machetes, in the coastal city.
According to reports, the Toyota car, which had three occupants, was flagged off by police officers at a roadblock near Nyali bridge. The occupants, however, took off immediately, leaving behind the vehicle.
Police Commander Simon Thirikwa revealed that upon searching the car, they recovered three machetes with bloodstains. The incident comes barely a week after a gang of 15, dubbed 'Wakali Chee,' was busted in Bombolulu, with seven machetes seized.
Thirikwa stated that the police suspect the occupants of the car were traveling to commit a crime, and a woman claiming to be the owner of the vehicle reported that her grandson had taken it for an errand. The vehicle was towed to Nyali police station, and the directorate of criminal investigations (DCI) has been advised to probe the matter.
