On a quiet Sunday afternoon, Navalayo Osembo, the 31-year-old co-founder and CEO of Enda Athletics, sat with me under a tree, enjoying the sunshine and the shade. Her office, located in the Kuona Artists Collective on Likoni road, Nairobi, was deserted, a stark contrast to the usual buzz of activities.

"I wanted to create a product that would give nuance to the Kenyan story," she said. "Beyond our borders, we are known as a running nation, but we depend on other countries for apparel. I wanted to change that narrative."
Navalayo's journey began in 2015, when she moved to New York City with her family to work as an accountant. However, she soon returned to Kenya, determined to make her business a success. With the support of her family and friends, she persevered through the challenges of raising capital and competing with international brands.

"Character exceeds genius," she said. "It is better to work with a person of integrity and teach them new skills than work with a dishonest genius. I am also okay with working with someone who makes mistakes than one who is intentionally deceitful."
