JKUAT University Closed Amid Student Protests ¶
Students at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Kenya protested on November 11, 2019, over safety concerns, leading to the university's closure.
According to eyewitnesses, the students were demonstrating against the poor security situation at the university, which had been plagued by theft and other crimes.
Police were deployed to the scene and used tear gas to disperse the students, who had blocked the main road in the Juja area.
The university's administration issued a statement saying that the institution had been closed temporarily due to the situation.
However, the students' union disputed this claim, saying that the university had been closed indefinitely.
The protests were the latest in a series of demonstrations by students at various universities in Kenya, including Garissa, Kenyatta Multi Media, and Moi universities, which had taken place in the past month.
