On November 6, 2019, a brutal attack in Jaldesa, Marsabit County, left three police officers dead and 10 herders murdered. The assailants also stole cattle and 228 heads of livestock were recovered by police.

Three G3 rifles, stolen during the attack, were recovered along Jaldesa-Shurr Road, dumped in a thicket. The operation to recover the illicit firearms is ongoing, according to County Commissioner Evans Achoki.

Four suspects, including a politician, an assistant chief, a retired chief, and a driver, are in custody over the incident. Police spokesman Charles Owino urged the public to surrender any illicit firearms in their possession to lawful authority.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has vowed to crack down on politicians fueling attacks in the region. A new border patrol unit will be established to maintain law and order in the area.
