Published on November 11, 2019, a leadership dispute between Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi and Majority Leader Abdi Guyo has led to chaos in the assembly.

According to reports, MCAs loyal to Guyo clashed with those supporting Elachi on Monday, November 11, after Elachi wrote to the Jubilee Party informing them of the changes in the leadership of the Nairobi County Assembly.

Elachi had already written to the Jubilee Party through Secretary General Raphael Tuju, informing them of the changes. The move was seen as a challenge to Guyo's leadership, leading to the clashes between the two groups.

Police were deployed to the assembly to maintain order as the situation escalated.

MCAs loyal to Guyo are demanding that Elachi step down as speaker, citing that they had removed Guyo from his position and replaced him with Charles Thuo, MCA for Dandora III.

The group also wants James Kiriba, Guyo's son, and Kiranja Chege Mwaura, Guyo's nephew, to step down from their positions.

However, the move has been met with resistance from Elachi's supporters, who are backing her leadership.
