Published on November 11, 2019, a story about two sisters from Nandi County who have a rare craving and appetite for eating soap caught the attention of Oak Tree Centre for Kidney and Chronic Diseases Hospital.

The hospital has invited Sharon Chepchirchir, 24, and her sister Lydia Chepkemboi, 17, for a series of tests to demystify their condition and find a solution to their problem.

According to Mathew Koech, the hospital's lead consultant, the tests will be conducted at no financial cost to the family.

Dr. Koech, a specialist in kidney diseases, described the soap-eating condition as rare and believes it may be linked to a mineral deficiency, specifically potassium deficiency, or a condition known as Pica.

Pica is a disorder that involves eating items that are not thought of as food and that do not contain significant nutritional value, such as clay, hair, dirt, soap, and paint chips.
