On Sunday, a tragic incident unfolded at St John Catholic church in Kutus, Kirinyaga County, when a 26-year-old man identified as Dennis Bundi took his own life by hanging himself from a tree within the church compound.
The church chairman, Michael Gichinga, confirmed the identity of the deceased and stated that he was unaware of any reason that could have driven him to commit suicide.
Police from Wang'uru Police Station arrived at the scene to retrieve the body, allowing the service to continue.
Residents expressed concern over the frequency of suicides witnessed in the area over the past weekend, with two men taking their own lives in separate incidents on Friday.
According to Kutus Chief Nancy Gichuki, one of the men, 40-year-old Simon Kinyua, was a member of a robbery gang who turned to suicide after a fellow gang member was gunned down in Thika.
The other man, 32-year-old Daniel Mwaniki, opted for death after a domestic squabble at his home.
