On November 11, 2019, Christian radio host Jesse Lee Peterson sparked outrage with comments about educated women.
During a show, Peterson criticized Representative Sean Duffy of Wisconsin for resigning from his position to care for his family, particularly his newborn daughter with Down's syndrome and a heart defect.
“Why does she have to work? Why doesn’t she stay home, be a wife, a mother, and help raise the children?” Peterson said, referring to Duffy's wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy.
Peterson went on to say that women should be assistants to men, watching over children, cooking, cleaning, and providing at home, and that educated women don't make good wives and mothers.
However, many people disagreed with Peterson's views, sharing their own experiences of having successful, working wives who are also excellent mothers.
“I dunno man, I enjoy the income and brain power my wife brings to our family,” one person commented on Reddit.
“My wife makes a hell of a lot more than I've ever made. She has a degree and I don't. She's also a great mother,” another person said.
