Published on November 11, 2019, the Kenya government has launched a statutory probe into the operations of the Kenya Qatar Diaspora Sacco Society.

The sacco, which has offices in Nairobi and Qatar, has been accused of mismanaging member funds, prompting the investigation.

Founded by Habakuk Wamududa, a chairman and automotive engineer, and pastor Emmanuel Mbadi, the vice chairman, the sacco has been targeting workers in the Gulf state of Qatar.

According to a notice posted in the Gazette, the investigation is expected to take two weeks and will be led by assistant director of co-operative audit Nelson Nyaga and principal co-operative officer Fenn Nzovu.

The probe comes as Kenya continues to attract a large diaspora in Qatar, with Kenyans living abroad sending home Sh2.7 billion in 2018 and a further Sh1.44 billion between January and June this year.
