On 8 November 2019, Kenyan athlete Ruth Chepng'etich received the prestigious 'Best Marathon Runner' award at the AIMS Best Marathon Runner Gala in Athens, Greece. The award ceremony, organised by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), marked a significant milestone in Chepng'etich's illustrious career.
Chepng'etich's remarkable journey to the top began in 2017 when she won the Istanbul Marathon. Her subsequent victories have earned her international recognition, with notable wins in 2019 including three half marathons in Colombia, Turkey, and Japan, as well as the Istanbul and Dubai Marathons.
At the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, Chepng'etich cemented her status as a world-class athlete by taking the world title.
Upon receiving her award, Chepng'etich expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am very happy to receive this award in Athens where the sport of marathon running was born. It is a great honour to be recognised this way.”
