Kenyan tech enthusiasts are in for a treat as Samsung Electronics East Africa prepares to launch the highly anticipated Galaxy Fold in the country this week.
According to sources and teasers from the company on social media, the Samsung Galaxy Fold will be launched on Thursday, November 14th, in Nairobi.
While the local pricing of the device remains unknown, it's worth noting that in other countries where it has been available for purchase since its return to the market about 2 months ago, the Samsung Galaxy Fold is going for a whopping $2,000 (an equivalent of almost Kshs 205,000 as per current exchange rates).
Given the expected steep pricing, the Galaxy Fold is likely to be made available in the Kenyan market in limited numbers, with Samsung possibly offering a number of accessories and other goodies for free to accompany the device.
The Galaxy Fold was first announced by Samsung 9 months ago but was recalled after early users experienced issues with their units malfunctioning. The company has since made improvements to the device, including strengthening the screen and introducing caps at either end to prevent dust and debris from getting trapped.
Tagged by its maker as “the world’s first device with a Dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex Display”, the Galaxy Fold packs the biggest display that Samsung has ever put on a smartphone: 7.3 inches.
Other features of the device include 6 cameras, wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, 12GB RAM, a whopping half-terabyte of storage, a 4,380mAh battery and a Snapdragon 855 processor.
