On November 11, 2019, a Kenyan woman was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, for attempting to smuggle cocaine into the country.
The woman, identified as Suamu Nkele, concealed over one kilogram of cocaine in her stomach and additional amounts in her socks and underwear, according to the Thai Office of the Narcotics Control Board.
Thai authorities discovered the cocaine after an x-ray scan revealed that Nkele had swallowed 1.2 kilograms of the drug in an attempt to avoid detection.
Drug trafficking is punishable by death in Thailand, and Nkele's arrest comes three months after a Kenyan man was apprehended at the same airport for attempting to smuggle cocaine.
