On November 6, 2019, a group of armed assailants attacked police officers at a watering point in Jaldesa, Marsabit County, killing three and stealing cattle.
According to Marsabit Governor Mohamud Mohamed, the assailants stole approximately 800 animals during the attack.
Following the incident, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that the stolen firearms, G3 rifles, were recovered along Jaldesa-Shurr Road.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i gave illegal firearm holders in the county 24 hours to surrender their guns or face forceful disarmament.
Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings, including a politician, an assistant chief, a retired chief, and a driver who transported one of the injured attackers to seek medical attention.
Police spokesman Charles Owino urged members of the public with firearms to surrender them to lawful authority, stating, 'A multi-agency operation to pursue the criminals and recover illicit arms is still on, we urge members of the public within the area with firearms to surrender them to lawful authority with immediate effect.'
