On November 10, 2019, a tragic incident shook the community of Kutus, Kirinyaga County, when a 26-year-old man took his own life within the compound of Nyangati St. John Catholic Church.

The man, identified as Dennis Bundi, was found dangling from a tree with a rope tied around his neck.

According to eyewitnesses, the church service was briefly interrupted after one of the worshippers discovered the body.

Police officers from Wang'uru Police Station were called to the scene and took away the body, allowing the church service to resume.

Church Chairman, Mr. Michael Gichinga, expressed shock and confusion over the incident, stating that they could not immediately establish why the man committed suicide.

This incident was the third reported suicide case in the area in less than a week, following two previous cases on Friday, November 8, 2019.

One of the previous cases involved 40-year-old Simon Kinyua, who reportedly took his life at Kanjata village in Kutus location, allegedly due to domestic issues.

Another case involved 32-year-old Daniel Mwaniki from Ngomongo Village in Kirinyaga Central, who hanged himself in his house on Friday following alleged domestic wrangles with his wife.
