On November 10, 2019, Martin Nderi, a home golfer, emerged victorious in the Che Memorial Golf tournament at the Kenya Railways Golf club in Nairobi County, with a score of 40 stableford points.
Nderi, playing off a handicap of 14, shot a balanced round of 18, with 17 stableford points from the front nine and an additional 23 points from the back nine, securing his win over a field of 164 golfers.
The tournament was held in honor of the late Augustine Muchai Githu, a member of the club who passed away the previous year.
As Nderi reflected on his win, he stated, "As I came out today, I kept telling myself that it would be more befitting if I play well and better, if I triumph in this tournament in honour of my late friend and playing mate, the late Muchai Githu."
Former Kenya Railway Club chairman Laban Gathungu won the second place with a score of 39 stableford points, while Chardwick Otachi and Maina Kariuki secured the third and fourth places, respectively.
