Kenya's top hockey teams, Butali Warriors and Blazers, are dominating their respective title races in the Kenya Hockey Union Premier League.

Butali Warriors, the reigning champions, need just one more win to secure a record 22nd league title. They currently lead the standings with 39 points from 15 matches.

Blazers, formerly known as Telkom, are also on course to retain their title in the women's category. They have 29 points from 11 matches and have one hand on this season's gong.

Butali Warriors' coach Dennis Owoka said their focus is now on the next game against Wazalendo, their closest challengers. 'We have had a good run, but our work is not done yet. We have now focused on our next game, which to us is like a final because if we win, we will retain our title,' Owoka said.

Butali Warriors secured a 3-2 win over Western Jaguars, with veteran Zack Aura scoring in the 16th minute, followed by Amos Barkibir and George Mutira. Jaguars refused to give up, however, and scored two goals in the fourth quarter to make it a thrilling match.

Blazers, on the other hand, rallied from behind to beat newcomers Lakers 2-1. Evergreen Jackline Mwangi and Barbara Simiyu scored two goals each in the match, securing Blazers' ninth win of the season.

Blazers' coach Jos Openda praised his team's determination, saying, 'The girls have vowed not to let the financial crisis dampen their spirits, and it was evident in how they played because we dominated the game despite not scoring more goals.'
