On Sunday, Liverpool secured a crucial 3-1 victory over Manchester City at Anfield, propelling them to the top of the Premier League table with an eight-point lead.
As of 12 games played, Liverpool boasts 34 points, with Leicester City and Chelsea trailing behind by eight points, and Manchester City, the defending champions, lagging nine points behind in fourth place.
The match began with a thunderous drive from Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, who capitalized on a clearance from Ilkay Gundogan and blasted the ball past Claudio Bravo from over 20 meters out in the sixth minute.
However, City felt that the goal should have been disallowed and a penalty awarded to them, as Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold appeared to handle the ball inside the box prior to the break that led to the goal, but the VAR review ultimately went against the visitors.
Despite this, City pushed forward in response, with Raheem Sterling missing a close-range header, but Liverpool struck again in the 13th minute when Andy Robertson crossed from the left and Mohamed Salah nodded the bouncing ball past Bravo to make it 2-0.
The match seemed all but over for City when Liverpool made it 3-0 six minutes after the interval, as Jordan Henderson worked space for a cross on the right flank and Sadio Mane stooped to head home at the back post.
However, Bernardo Silva pulled a goal back for City in the 78th minute, drilling home a low cross from Angelino, and the visitors enjoyed some late pressure, but Liverpool held firm.
