On a thrilling Sunday in the Kenyan Premier League, Kakamega Homeboyz solidified their position as second-placed team with a convincing 2-0 victory over Western Stima at Bukhungu Stadium.
Ken Onyango and Ali Bhai were the scorers for Homeboyz, securing 17 points and narrowing the gap to just one point behind league leaders Gor Mahia FC, who defeated AFC Leopards 4-1 at Moi Stadium, Kasarani.
The match began with both teams creating scoring opportunities, but it wasn't until the 35th minute that Onyango capitalized on a mix-up between Stima defenders to tap in a cross and give Homeboyz the lead.
Stima responded with a goal, but the linesman's offside flag denied them the equalizer.
Homeboyz sealed the win with Ali Bhai's goal in the 42nd minute, and coach Nicholas Muyoti praised his team's defense for their spirited performance in the final 10 minutes of the game.
"My boys played well, we kept the clean sheet, and I'm hoping we'll replicate the same against Gor Mahia next week," Muyoti said.
Western Stima's coach, Salim Babu, vowed to bounce back against Tusker next week, assuring fans that his team would improve.
Elsewhere, Ulinzi Stars secured a crucial 1-0 win over Bandari at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, with Oscar Wamwala scoring the only goal in the 13th minute.
Ulinzi Stars' defense stood strong, with goalkeeper Timothy Odhiambo making a crucial save to deny Yema Mwana an equalizer in the 70th minute.
