On November 10, 2019, the Organization for American States (OAS) recommended fresh elections in Bolivia after the previous poll was marred by allegations of fraud.
President Evo Morales, who claimed a fourth consecutive term in the disputed election, called for new national elections in a televised address.
"I call for new national elections, which, by voting, allow the Bolivian people to democratically elect new authorities," Morales said.
Three people had died and hundreds were injured in often violent protests since the disputed election, which the opposition claimed was rigged.
The OAS recommended that the first round of the elections held on October 20 be annulled and the electoral process begin again.
According to the OAS, the first round of the elections should take place as soon as a new electoral commission is in place.
