Club Brugge Punishes Star Player for Costly Penalty in Champions League

Club Brugge, the reigning Belgian champions, has taken disciplinary action against its star player, Mbaye Diagne, for missing a crucial penalty in their Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain on November 6, 2019.

Diagne, a 28-year-old Senegalese forward, was brought in on loan from Galatasaray for the current season, and his mistake in the 76th minute of the match at the Parc des Princes cost his team a vital opportunity to take the lead.

According to reports, Diagne was seen arguing with his teammate, Hans Vanaken, over who should take the penalty, before ultimately missing the shot and allowing Keylor Navas to make the save.

Club Brugge's manager, Philippe Clement, confirmed the disciplinary action against Diagne in a press conference on November 8, stating that the player would be punished and would not be included in the team's squad for their upcoming match against Royal Antwerp.

The punishment also includes a significant fine, and Diagne will be out of action for several weeks, with no clear indication of when he will return to the team.

Club Brugge currently sits in third place in Group A of the Champions League, with two matches remaining in the group stage. They will face Galatasaray and Real Madrid in their final two matches, and a win in either of those matches would secure their place in the knockout stage.
