On December 15, John Henderson and Charlotte will celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary, a remarkable milestone in their 211-year combined age.
According to Guinness World Records, the couple from Austin, Texas, holds the title of the world's oldest living couple.
John, 106, and Charlotte, 105, met in a class at the University of Texas in 1934, where Charlotte was studying to be a teacher and John played football for the Longhorns.
They married in 1939 and spent their honeymoon at a hotel room, where they incurred a modest bill of $7 (approximately Sh700).
Today, the couple resides at Longhorn Village, a senior living community associated with the University of Texas alumni group.
John attributes their happy marriage to living life in moderation and being cordial to each other, as he once said, “Live life in moderation and be cordial to your spouse.”
John also holds the title of world's oldest living former UT football player and has attended at least one UT football game per season for the past 84 consecutive years.
