On November 10, 2019, Guinness World Records recognized John Henderson, 106, and Charlotte, 105, from Austin, Texas, as the world's oldest living couple.

The couple, who will celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary next month, has a combined age of 211 years.

John and Charlotte met at The University of Texas in 1943, where Charlotte was pursuing a teaching career and John played on the football team.

They got married in 1939 and spent their honeymoon at a hotel, where they incurred a modest bill of $7 (approximately Ksh.700).

The couple currently resides at Longhorn Village, a senior living community associated with a University of Texas alumni group.

According to John, who still exercises daily and was named the oldest living former University of Texas football player in 2012, the secret to a happy marriage is to 'live life in moderation and be cordial to your spouse.'
