On a thrilling Saturday, Butali Sugar Warriors edged Western Jaguars 4-2 in a Kenya Hockey Union Premier League match, extending their unbeaten streak to 15 matches and leaving them just one point shy of defending their title.
Butali made a rapid start, with Zack Aura, Ammos Barkibir, and George Mutira all scoring within 35 minutes. However, Western Jaguars pushed back in the second half through strikes from Allan Mallit and Emmanuel Wiswa.
Western Jaguars coach Michael Malungu praised his team's resilience, saying, "It was a game of two halves. Butali were so good and efficient in the first half, but we came back stronger in the second half and mounted a good comeback. It's a shame we still lost the match."
Malungu expressed optimism about his team's upcoming matches, stating, "We have worked on our defensive phase, and you could see how we contained situations today. Let's prepare for the next match and hope we come out victorious."
Butali's coach, Dennis Owaka, paid tribute to the opposition, saying, "Jaguars are a very good and organized team, and they have a very good coach. We came in with a game plan to press them high in the first quarter, unfortunately, they dominated the midfield, and our game plan actually worked against us. It's a massive win because it takes us closer to the title."
