On November 10, 2019, a group of women from Mombasa took to the streets to protest the harassment of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

The women, who were led by Mildred Odinga, demanded an immediate stop to all ongoing investigations touching on the governor and vowed to strip naked if EACC failed to comply with their demands.

According to Mildred Odinga, the women were concerned that Sonko was being humiliated and frustrated by the government just three years into his tenure as governor.

“We are shocked that despite not completing three years in office, Governor Sonko has been subjected to harassment and humiliation. We do not understand what he has done wrong. We are pleading with the government to stop harassing him and let him do his work, as he serves not only Nairobi residents but the entire country,” said Mildred Odinga.

The protest was sparked by Sonko's recent questioning by EACC over cheating claims regarding the self-declaration forms he submitted in 2017 while vying for governorship. The appearance at Integrity Centre was marked by confrontations between police and his supporters.
