Rigathi Gachagua Denounces Handshake Over Kibra Violence

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has disowned the unity pact between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga following the chaos witnessed in Kibra during the by-election.

Speaking on November 9, 2019, Gachagua accused Raila of sponsoring militia to scare away Jubilee supporters and lawmakers from participating in the exercise.

"Raila sponsored militia to scare away Jubilee supporters and lawmakers from participating in the exercise...if handshake was about chaos and violence against Kenyans, then, me and the people I lead are no longer part of that handshake," said Gachagua.

The Kibra by-election turned into a stone-throwing affair as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters faced off Jubilee supporters over allegations of voter bribery.

Among those who were beaten up include former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.
