Published on November 10, 2019, Nairobi News reported that Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa was confident of emerging victorious in the upcoming elections.

Mwendwa, who is seeking re-election alongside his Deputy Doris Petra, dismissed claims of a 'handshake' deal with his opponents, including his predecessor Sam Nyamweya, seasoned politicians Moses Akaranga and Alex Ole Magelo, and Nairobi businessman Steve Mburu.

The trio had boycotted the elections, citing that the process was skewed in favour of the incumbent. However, Mwendwa was unfazed, stating that his team was unopposed in all the eight National Executive Committee seats and in 35 of the 45 Counties heading to the elections.

‘We will win the (electoral related) court cases because those challenging us are not football members,’ Mwendwa told Nairobi News.

‘Opposition leader Raila Odinga managed to do a handshake with the President (Uhuru Kenyatta) because he has a constituency. Our opponents have no support. I can prove that,’ Mwendwa added.

FKF's elections are set to take place on December 7, with the Electoral Board having already released the list of clubs and officials cleared to vote.
