As the Kakamega Forest Marathon approaches, I am excited to see the growing number of runners preparing for the event. In fact, I hope that the organizers have enough space to accommodate all the participants, and sufficient medals and prizes to reward the record-breaking performances that I am confident will be achieved.

My own training team, Mwisho wa Lami Runners, has been working hard to prepare for the marathon. We have been training regularly, with sessions that have taken us over 30km at a time. Our first session, on Friday, November 1, was a challenging one, with blisters and aching muscles that left me feeling exhausted.

However, I was heartened to see the progress we made in the following days. On Sunday, November 3, we ran up and down a hill, with Nyayo joining us for the first time. Despite his initial absence, Nyayo has been a valuable member of our team, providing guidance and support throughout our training.

But the biggest surprise of all came on Tuesday, November 5, when Bensouda joined us for a training session. She was wearing a red and green tracksuit and was eager to train with us. We started with body stretches, and then set off on a 6km run. Bensouda was sweating profusely, but she persevered, and we completed the run in two hours.

Over the next few days, we continued to train, with Bensouda joining us regularly. We met at the school football pitch, and ran with a group of 10 people, including Kuya, who led us in stretching exercises. Despite the challenges we faced, we were determined to succeed, and we continued to train hard.

On Saturday, November 9, we embarked on our first long run, covering 15km. Bensouda joined us, but she was disappointed when I told her that I had to keep pace with the rest of the team. She sent me a message later, asking that I organize a private training session with her. I am considering her request, and I am excited to see how she will progress in the coming days.

As for Fiolina, she has also expressed interest in joining our team. She said that I have been at my best since I started running, and she is eager to participate in the Kakamega Forest Marathon. I am thrilled to have her on board, and I am confident that together, we will achieve great things.

So, if you are thinking of registering for the Kakamega Forest Marathon, I encourage you to do so. It's not too late to join the fun, and I am sure that you will enjoy the experience. Go to www.ingomarathon.or.ke and register today!
