November 10, 2019, marked a day when many of us reflected on the concept of love and relationships. We often dream of finding that perfect partner, but the reality is far from the fairy tales we've been fed.

The entertainment industry, in particular, has contributed to this misconception. Disney Princess movies and pop songs have led us to believe that finding a partner is enough to make us happy. However, this is far from the truth.

Our society is full of ideas that suggest wealth, success, and happiness are easily attainable and come from external sources. We're led to believe that buying the right phone, drinking the right beer, or using the right brand of cooking oil will bring us joy. But the reality is that true happiness and fulfillment come from within.

Many of us settle for emotionally unavailable partners, fearing that there's no one better out there for us. We may have repeatedly withheld our true feelings for fear of rejection or tried to have relationships with people who are controlling, self-centered, abusive, impulsive, or unfaithful.

Good marriages, on the other hand, are built on mutual respect, trust, and a deep understanding of each other's needs. Both partners are able to express their feelings, fight fair, and commit to each other's personal growth and well-being.

So, how do you find a relationship like that? It begins with self-acceptance and a decision to settle for nothing less than a good relationship. This requires a willingness to change your bad expectations and understand that love is not just a feeling, but something you do.

Truly loving someone means choosing to accept them unconditionally, exactly as they are, without trying to change them. It's about respecting their right to see things differently and giving them the space to be themselves.

Real love is full of emotional intimacy, passion, and commitment. It's not just about saying 'I love you,' but about showing your love in practical ways and being with someone who does the same.
