Published on November 10, 2019, a proposal by a woman from Lamu County to encourage men to marry multiple wives has been met with resistance from city men.
The woman, Alice Wambui Wangu, argued that this approach would help end infidelity in marriages and reduce the number of people involved in prostitution.
However, most men appear to be against her opinion, citing harsh economic times and the pressure of ensuring harmony among multiple women.
Some men have expressed their concerns, with Omondi Omundu saying, “Some of us would wish to drop the women we are married to so that we can enjoy our lives. One wife is already a burden and stressful to live with, how do you marry 3?”
Others have dismissed the idea as 'idle thinking,' with Jolly Nyagah and Jimnarez expressing their skepticism.
This is not the first time such a proposal has been made. In 2018, Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba urged rich men to marry several wives, citing the Kikuyu culture and the need to address societal problems such as alcoholism among the youth.
